In defense of the 'Cat Lady'...

I am 31 (and a half) and I am single, and I have two cats. And I am sick and tired of people asking me 'have you met anyone?' or 'Seeing anyone special?' before they ask me, 'How's the job going?' or 'How is your marathon training going?' as if the most important mission in my life is to find someone to be happy with. Please.

I AM HAPPY. All by myself. Well, by myself and with my two completely un-adorable cats. For years the proverbial 'cat lady' has been the brunt of many spinster jokes, and I've been teased more than a few times about turning into one of 'those' ladies. Whatever people. After the modern day examples of marriages I've seen - leave me out of it. And if you don't think I have a right to an opinion about marriage because I haven't experienced it - fine. I'm happy not to give it to you. As long as you keep your outdated and irrelevant opinions about singleness to yourself. Deal? Good.

My original thought was right - my Mom really did get the last good one. And if not settling for less means that I will grow old with only myself (and the cats) for company, so be it. To steal a line from one of my most favorite movies, 'I have far greater ambitions than marriage'. And my next one is calling me - so I'm off for a run.

Still single and loving it,
The Cat Lady

Happy Independence Day!

"The price of Freedom is eternal vigilance" - Thomas Jefferson

Love our Country, Pray for our troops and their leaders that they might have wisdom and courage and return home safely.

In this country we have so much to be thankful for. Last night we had a great night. A night we would have been punished severly for in a lot of this world. And we found out that some people still don't vote. That is so crazy to me. Think about all that you know. Think about all the random, useless facts you have filled your mind with. And tell me all of those things are more important to you than this country you live in and the people who lead it. Don't spout out angry 'freedom of speech' crap or 'it's my right not to vote, too' bull just to justify your ignorance. Take a tiny minute out of your myspace, workout, whatever self-centeredness and do something that people died (and are still dying) for you to have the right to do. Take a minute and educate yourself, not only on what the latest news is in your neighborhood, but in the world. Take a moment to educate yourself on HOW LUCKY you are to live in this country and have the rights that you have. Learn about the struggles of millions of people around the world who would die (and have) to be in your shoes with the rights and luxuries you have. If you want to know why things seem to be getting worse instead of better then take a look in the mirror my friend. It is people like you, lazy, self-righteous, ignorant people, living on the coat tails of the rights our brothers, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and beyond fought and died for. How dare you not care! How dare you tarnish the glory of this country with your indifference. You are no better than those you despise for no reason. You are as ignorant and disrespectful. Only you are even worse. You cannot even help them to understand the greatness of these United States because you yourself do not know. You are a citizen of this country. You were born into that privilage and with that privilage comes obligation. To respect, to educate, to VOTE!
